day 3: Memphis to Dallas

We left Memphis in the morning and had a boring drive across Arkansas, not much there at all.  Except for when we saw a FedEx truck weaving over the lines of his lane of traffic.  He was ahead of us and we chose to keep a safe distance behind him.  After he made a few cars swerve off the road/into another lane we decided to call highway patrol.  Apparently, someone else called before us and they were on top of it.  The next thing we know a highway patrolman pulls out with his lights on and rides behind the truck for 10 miles!  The truck would not pull over and continued to swerve all over the place with the patrolman behind him.  He eventually pulled over and I was dying to know what was going on.  However, we weren't able to tune into the local Arkansas news later that night because we would be in Dallas.  It shall remain an unsolved mystery.

John drove the whole way (around 6.5 hours) so we could make it to Dallas for the Rangers game.  We made it in time!  However, we were greeted with rain and high winds, and the game was eventually cancelled.

John and Tom (his friend from high school)

This was a huge bummer since it's been one of John's lifelong dreams to attend a Rangers game at Rangers Ballpark.  So we decided to go out with friends afterward (Tom, his girlfriend and Paula, one of my college roommates) to Craft and Growler which was a really cool place.  It was really great to spend the little bit of time we had with great friends.  (Thank y'all for meeting up with us and hanging out!)  We stayed at Tom's house that night and John decided to go to the Rangers game the next day.

The idea of doing this both thrills me and scares the living day lights out of me, so, why not?

the lion king 3D & new bucket list item

Ever since I saw the preview for The Lion King 3D at Glee 3D, I knew I had to go see it!  And seeing as it's John's fave Disney movie, I knew we had a date night in the near future.  Tonight was the night.  It was sooooo wonderful!  I think it was part-amazing story and part-reliving our childhoods.  I loved it, I really did.  And I may have cried...twice.  Once when Simba was introduced to the kingdom and once when (spoiler alert) Mufasa dies.  Sad times people, sad times.  But all in all it was definitely worth the inflated price for the 3D viewing.  Although, judging from the previews I won't be going to see any more 3D movies in the near future.  Slim pickins.  And can I get an amen on being sick that everything is 3D now?

Also, during the movie I made a major life decision.  Which brings us to.....

18. When we have a child I will present him/her to our family as Simba was presented to the kingdom.

No I'm not kidding.  No, I didn't consult John nor do I plan to, he will simply agree that it's a necessity.  Family, be prepared.

bucket list item #17

17. Attend a NASCAR race.

No, I'm not joking.  My sister attended her first (of many to come, I assume) NASCAR race this past weekend and had the time of her life!  At first I was thinking "why the heck would you want to do that?" and then I realized that she was attending an event that would entail everything that is good and right about America and more specifically, the South.  We're talking tailgating, beer drinking, jorts, cut off tees (eek!), boom boxes, people passionate about cars racing in a circle, good ol' boys, good ol' gals (?), cornhole, BBQ, rat tails (yesssss!), people who are genuinely nice and real excited to be there.  In all seriousness, I think it would be a lot of fun to attend at least one race.  And tailgating would be a must.  Duh.

Side note: A couple months ago I shamelessly sang karaoke in front of a group of people (with Abby!).  The song: I Got Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks.  So, check.

strange (bucket list item #16)

So I woke up this morning at 5:45 a.m. (yes, you read that correctly) to go to work. Now here's the real kicker...while I was getting ready for work (i.e. brushing teeth and putting on clothes, no need for make up or primping) I thought "hey, I should totally run a 5k". What!? Where the heck did that thought come from??? I don't enjoy running. Running makes me feel like I'm going to keel over and die. I literally hate every minute of running. After recovering from what can only be described as TBI I thought that the plus side to (maybe) running would be I wouldn't have to hate myself after eating that extra cookie. Or that extra brownie. Or whatever indulgence I plunge into at any given moment.

Let me explain something...every year around this time (I guess it has something to do with the fact that I'm rejoicing over being able to go outside and not get frostbite) I think that I could totally dominate running. Ha. ha. ha. Who am I kidding? (see above on feelings regarding running) My logical side says "you have a healthy body", "you need to prove to your chubby 10 year old self that you can do this", "it would make your husband so proud", "you could maybe have one thing in common with husband if you took up running", "this would be a great way to stay in shape".

The emotional (and let's be honest, more practical) side of me says "I don't want to pass out on a busy street while running", "husband should love me the way I am", "I don't want a stranger finding me unconscious in their front yard", "I can't even run with Dixie because she would totally drag me along the sidewalk", "and again, don't want to face public humiliation by passing out mid-run".

So I'm left with this: I have decided to add "complete a 5k" to my bucket list. It may happen later this year, it may happen in 10 years (yeah right) or maybe never (hey, there's my old self!). We'll see.

Now onto how the heck this idea got into my head...I swear John does some kind of neuro-conditioning on me while I'm sleeping. I've also been having thoughts of making bacon topped cupcakes, actually enjoying football and wanting to be more competitive at absolutely everything...now where could that be coming from? (I kid, I kid)

bucket list item #14

14. Become fluent in sign language.

Tonight I met two deaf women at the dog park and had a great time communicating with them. It was definitely a humbling experience since they had to slow down very much and I got confused quite a bit. However, when I got home I was pretty happy with my ability to communicate with them. I have a strong desire (and I'm not sure why) to become fluent in sign. I'm starting classes in October so I'm sure that will help, yay!

side note:
bucket list: A list of things to do before you die. Comes from the term "kicked the bucket". (thanks urbandictionary.com)

Maybe I'll begin by creating my bucket list. Yep, now I will randomly post things for my bucket list. Feel free to post things on your bucket list in the comments section, I would love to know :)
