new dress a day

My sister introduced me to this awesome blog where this gal has assigned herself the mission of making 365 pieces of clothing in 365 days with $365. She is quite creative and absolutely fabulous!

sleeping dog

I think one of the sweetest things ever is to watch a sleeping dog. Dixie is laying on the floor right now taking a little pup nap. I love watching her little eyelids fight off the sleep that she needs because she's thinking, maybe just maybe there is some adventure out there I'm going to miss during my 10 minute nap. Then watching her little legs and paws flinch as her body relaxes in order to sleep. Then the extra special one is when she will bark or her legs will move in response to her dream. She's probably chasing the mailman or after a pile of bacon in the dream. Oh how I love my Dixie girl. :)

mo hawks/ faux hawks

Lately I've really been liking mo hawks/ faux hawks, here are some of my faves. Do you think John would be up for having one? Yeah, I didn't think so either.

black bean and corn salad

I got this recipe from John's aunt Mary Ann and I've already made it twice this summer and had many compliments. Hope you enjoy, it's wonderful!

Black Bean and Corn Salad
  • 3 limes (lime juice)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or my version, 3 cloves)
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen corn kernels (or 4 ears)
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans black beans
  • 1 avocado peeled, diced
  • 1 red pepper, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 6 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1. Place lime juice, olive oil, garlic, salt and cayenne pepper in a small jar. Cover with lide and shake it until mixed well.
2. In a salad bowl, combine everything else. Shake dressing and pour over salad. Stir salad to coat veggies and beans with dressing.

This movie was AWESOME! I can honestly say that it was everything that I wanted it to be (and maybe a little more)!! Now I highly recommend that you read the book BEFORE you watch the movie, it will mean so much more to you (well, doesn't it always?). There has been some controversy over the book and movie, people are saying that Elizabeth Gilbert (author of the book) was so self indulgent and made everything about her...hello, the book is about a woman who never had time to figure out who the heck she was until she was 31 and it's about a trip she takes in order to discover herself. It's wonderful! The movie was tastefully done, I felt like Julia Roberts (love her!) captured the essence of the character. The scenery was gorgeous, the food looked delicious, her hair and outfits were incredible and I have to admit that Felipe was easy on the eyes. I highly, highly recommend the movie and the book. 5 out of 5 stars

funny girl

After being obsessed with the Glee version of "Don't Rain on My Parade" I finally bought ($5!) Funny Girl so I could know where this wonderful song came from. And let me tell you, I loved it! What a great movie! And Barbra was absolutely incredible! And beautiful, oh my gosh! I loved her hair, make up, costumes...everything! I highly recommend the movie. Cute story, great music, great props and costumes...just wonderful :) 4 out of 5

inception

After weeks of John dying to see Inception we finally went Thursday night. And I have to say that it was really, really good. It's definitely one of those movies that makes you think. I knew this ahead of time so I paid close attention to detail during the first half of the movie (you don't have to pay as much attention to detail in the second half). Pretty much when we left my brain felt like a scrambled egg. But it was great and I really enjoyed the movie. Plus, I really like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard. I give it a 4 out of 5.

shopping

Have I ever mentioned that I love shopping? Ok, well I do. I love it a lot actually. Today I decided to end the work day early and browse the nearest Kohl's since a friend recently told me they had some great stuff on sale.

When I walk into a department store a sort of peace just rolls over me. It is a wonderful feeling. I feel relaxed and excited all at the same time. Man, I love retail! The clothes, the jewelry, the bags, the shoes, the housewares, I could go on forever! There were so many things I wanted to buy but I restrained and told myself I could by something if I absolutely needed it.

Then I went shopping with my friend Anna at the mall. I haven't been to a mall in months, it was so great to see all of the stores that I love and don't usually let myself indulge in! I am proud to say that I left the mall with a pair of earrings and a necklace. Wow. It wasn't easy folks. But, I'm planning another trip in my mind when fall comes...I mean who doesn't need new jeans, new bag, dresses, heels, boots and jewelry when the season changes? Hmm...maybe I should start moonlighting somewhere to support my love of retail...any suggestions?

hands, heart

Love this picture.

cute blog

I found this gem on this blog. Dig the blog, dig the poster. Maybe I'll buy it here.

book it

First of all I need to say that I love, love, LOVE Beth Moore! She is definitely my kind of woman. She has found the perfect balance of being a Christian woman while maintaining her sass. Anyway, this book is freaking awesome, yet another great thing produced by Beth! Seriously, if I could meet her I think I would just cry and hug her. God has given her great insight so that she can spread it to all sorts of ladies. I highly recommend this book, 5 out of 5 stars.

Good book, I really dig Picoult. However, she has yet again let me down with the ending. Not nearly as devastating as Handle With Care. Actually, it's not devastating at all, the end is just like mehh. Although, I have to give it to her, she really researches her stuff...she is a very knowledgeable writer and very creative. 3 out of 5 stars.

Oh my boy, Donald Miller, how I adore thee. This man is wonderful. If I met him I think I could talk to him for 12 hours straight at a coffee shop. God has given him great insight on life, I think I just really admire his blunt honesty. This is not my favorite of his books but I really did like it. After I put down a Don Miller book my mind is usually blown away by what he has to say. This one was insightful but I really enjoyed just reading about his adventures in the book. He's awesome (did I already say that?). I give it a 5 out of 5.
